"Studying International Relations and European Politics at Masaryk University allowed me to build a theoretical foundation in geopolitics, history, and security in European and global contexts while letting me explore and learn more about my particular areas of interest. In addition, this program has enabled personal and professional interactions with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, which I found invaluable. I still draw from my positive experience to this day."
Karina Smreková, BA alumnus 2022 - Science Po Paris, full scholarship
"IREP offers a supportive and flexible environment to study and offers a variety of elective courses taught both by experts in the university as well as by visiting lecturers from abroad. The selection of courses is expanding, and students' wishes are taken into account. Discussion is encouraged during lectures. I credit the program with cultivating an interest which led to my eventual choice of a Master's program, and with the quality of education that enabled me to be admitted into it."
Ville Haapanen, BA alumnus 2020 - University of Tartu
„The IREP programme provides students with comprehensive academic as well as methodological insight into the field of international relations. Consequently, due to its combination of a unique and flexible curriculum, IREP represents an excellent opportunity for acquiring profound expertise in the academic disciplines encompassing the fields of international political economy, international security, European Union institutions, European history and many others.“
Jovica Jovic, BA alumnus 2021 - College of Europe, Warsaw
„Having successfully completed my Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and European Politics added value to my life in various ways. I have learnt to not only think outside the box, but to think as if there is no box. My intellect was enriched and I strongly believe that all the knowledge I acquired will help me become an exceptional policy maker and prompt positive multifaceted change in my home country.“
Janice Shelcia Nhatuve, BA alumnus 2021 - Masaryk university
“I started the Bachelor’s degree at Masaryk University when I was already 26. I was far from academia for more than 5 years, it was not an easy decision for me to take. But one can’t imagine, how I am happy that I decided to do so, to live in Brno and study at Masaryk. It shaped whole my future life, dividing it into “before IREP Masaryk” and “after IREP Masaryk.”
Mammad Azizov, BA alumnus 2021, King's College London
"Thought-provoking, interactive courses offered by the IREP program, coupled with an extraordinarily friendly approach of the lecturers create a remarkable university experience resulting in a greater understanding of international relations and politics in the contemporary world."
Alexandra Blašková, BA alumnus 2020 - University of Leiden
"I had the most amazing university experience at Masaryk University. The university is excellent, and the program was amazing and very interesting.I feel like the three years I spent in my program could not have been better and I feel that I know everything I expected to be taught. I met so many interesting people with very plentiful experiences and stories."
Barbora Horanová, BA alumnus 2020, University of Bristol
"I think that the bachelor's degree programme of International Relations and European Politics gave me more than I expected. It's not just degree, it is an experience, which many students seek. Rather than just studying bland texts, I was provided with lots of insightful discussions and dynamic teacher-student relationships, which helped me understand what I was studying, whether it was European integration or the millions of international relations theories. It helped me become a better student, employee, but also a person. Which is what a student wants out of tertiary education, an experience that can change his/her life in a meaningful way."
Mark, BA alumnus 2020
MA program
“I had the time of my life when I studied International Relations at the Faculty of Social Studies. I really enjoyed small-class sizes and a very personal approach of our professors who mostly knew us by our first names. I chose a specific and not well researched field of cultural policy and found ways to write my Thesis with a very practical impact while working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to EU in Brussels. My teachers - doc. Dancak, dr. Koran and doc. Pitrova were most supportive and helpful of helping me make it happen. I made life-long friendships and I keep in touch with many of my teachers even though I graduated a decade ago and live on the other side of the world now.”
Kristýna Rempel, M.A General Manager of Chamber Choir Luminous Voices and former Head of the Czech-Canadian Chamber of Commerce
"After graduating European Politics at Masaryk University I was offered a job at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, LEPL National Agency of Mines, where I took the position of Leading Specialist at International Relations and Project Management Unit. Masaryk University gave me an outstanding opportunity to meet academics from all around the world and have a privilege to work with brilliant scholars. I wish to extend my thanks to the faculty, not only for providing the knowledge and skills fit for a successful career, but also for creating connections and acquaintances that made me grow and develop both in personal and professional terms."
Nino Khurtsilava, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia
"Experience of studying European Politics at Faculty of Social Studies was very valuable to my career, as it approaches topics from various perspectives of observation. What enables the student to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of wide range. This, as well, shapes and improves analytical and writing skills, what I found to be of great benefit in everyday professional work afterwards. The student-oriented approach of this study program is a major benefit. Students feel that lecturers are willing to discuss and provide guidance and help whenever needed."
Neda Smiljanic, OSCE mission in Kosovo
"What I most appreciate about FSS was my exposure to a broad range of ideas and the emphasis on critical thinking. No matter how far-fetched the discussions may seem at times, being encouraged to form and express opinions is tremendously valuable. Critical thinking as a skill-set has no expiration date and there is virtually no line of work - globally - where this wouldn't be relevant."
Jana Kovacovska, Currently runs her own management consultancy in London.
"I was fortunate enough to join the Department of International Relations and European Studies at the very year it was established, in 1999. Over the following eight years, I worked my way through the undergraduate, graduate and PhD. programs, before joining the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic in 2007. My time with the Department can be credited with many useful lessons. To name a few factors, which helped me further in my career, development of intelectual curiosity and constructive criticism would certainly be among highlights."
David Müller, Head of Economic and Trade Section, Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Toronto
